The Jan-Lokpal movement has hit the country like a tsunami, and the common man has thronged to support the movement in the numbers that may soon match the JP movement of 1974. After a long time, someone has decided to become the voice of the frustration rooted in the hearts of the common man of India. This is a chance for the public to show these politicians that we will no longer tolerate the corruption and the corrupt.
But still, we need to ask ourselves if the Jan-Lokpal is enough to get rid of the cancer of corruption?
The answer to this question is NO. Because corruption is only a part of the problem faced by our country and the public. I firmly believe that a poor, uneducated public divided into the lines of religion, caste, and sub-castes, will never be able to reap the benefits of an institute like Lokpal.
Till the time people are poor, they would always be prone to fall prey to the rich and mighty who would continue to exploit them. A poor man would happily forgo their right to freedom from corruption for a square meal for his family.
The same is the case with the Illiteracy. An illiterate person would never be able to understand his/her rights. The government's job is not just to open schools where the students can just learn to read and write and be counted as literates just for the sake of statistical data. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that the students should not only learn the basic subjects but also about their rights and duties towards the nation. The need of the hour is an educated youth, and not just a literate one. An educated mind can fight the menace of corruption as it can differentiate between right and wrong.
And finally, till the time people of this country continue to be divided on the basis of religion, caste, and creed, we will never achieve the goal of corruption-free India. It is the duty of each and every citizen of this country to set aside every difference at this time and drive all the energy into a corruption-free India, and educated India and an India where there is no such term called Poor.
And that my friends, is Just A Thought.........
Anu you've touched upon some very good topics in your post.
ReplyDelete1. Is the Jan Lokpal an answer to Corruption? Not completely, but yes it is a first step in that direction. If not for this movement the govt. would've never passed a proper lokpal bill that addresses corruption. Come to think of it a few corrupt morons passing a bill that will expose them!! Wouldn't have been possible w/o this protest!
2. Can the poor reap benefits of the bill. You are absolutely right in saying that unless the poor & illiterate are educated about their rights they will not know
3. Shahi Imam's proclamation: the less said the better. I think the Muslims gave him a fitting reply by holding their namaz at the ramlila ground. Time has come when the muslims and dalits should come out and disown these maulvis & politicians who make irresponsible statements on their behalf.
Keep posting ur thoughts :)
Anubhav,
ReplyDeleteThis is avery interesting write up here. Frankly I completely agree with you. I never supported Jan Lokpal and the shape that it has take. Unless the primary issues are handled hee nothing can be done. And in my opinion the isues are following:
1. Education
2. Ministers in our parliament with no education background but yes, holding criminal backgrounds. Irony is:
...as per our law if a civilian ever gets a police record he can never ever sit for a govt job.
...Every govt job has a retiring age and minimum qualification must be met. But there are no such crierias for the so called MINISTERS!
3. And the last but not the least...the people who are sitting with Mr. Anna Hazare, I can assure you that once this bill is passed they wil be the ones who will give bribe to a govt officer in order to speed up their job and the same people at the time of vote will be enjoying the holiday instead of acting like a responsible citizen.
But still all said and done...Mera Bharat Mahan even if 100 main se 99 beimaan!
one of the ramifications of the jan lokpal bill, the way arvind kejriwal has drafted -------- there will be no men in R K Puram, moti bagh, chanakya puri......only housewives and children left after a year.....all men in tihar.
