Boycotting Republic Day?

There have been calls from all over India to boycott this Republic Day as a protest against the continuing crimes against women in this country. I totally agree with the public anger and I am also a part of group of people who believe that the government is not doing enough to make our country safe for women. My heart also burns with anger when everyday I read the news papers and find that again sme woman is subjected to a crime against her freedom, or her modesty. However, I do not agree to this call for boycotting the Republic Day. This is because today if we are able to protest against the non-functioning of Government or holding demonstrations, or even writing on the social websites to boycott Republic Day, its because India chose to be a republic when it accepted the constitution in 1950.
