Bollywood Or Cricket? It's Olympics for God's Sake...

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has done it again. They have again shown that there is no one better when it comes to ignoring the feats achieved by the Olympians of the country and sending a clear message to all the participating athletes that no matter how many medals you win at the Rio Olympics, you will always be an unknown entity in India.

This applaudable deed was achieved when IOA announced Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan as the Goodwill Ambassador for Indian Contingent for Rio Olympics.  This is the power of Bollywood that the top bosses of IOA were unable to differentiate between reality and fiction. I am sure that they would have thought of Salman Khan as a Olympic standard Wrestler after watching the teaser of his upcoming movie Sultan. If that is the criteria than I hope that our Hockey team will be coached by Shah Rukh Khan and Farhan Akhtar will represent India in 100 meters and 200 meters sprints at the Olympics.

By ignoring the stalwarts of the Olympic sports like Milkha Singh, PT Usha, Leander Paes, Dhanraj Pilley and Bhaichung Bhutia, IOA has once again proved how willing it is to improve the standards of Olympic sports in India and how much it cares about the player morale.

The entire nation would like to ask IOA about the credentials of Salman Khan for being the Goodwill Ambassador apart from those given by his father that he is an excellent bicycle rider because he rides his bicycle to the sets of his movies and a great swimmer because he may often be going for a swim in the nearest pool of a five star hotel. Just because his movie Sultan, in which he plays a wrestler is up for release and the producers are Yash Raj Productions, the biggest production house in India with lots of money, Olympics are being used as a platform to promote the movie on a global scale.

Salman Khan is a fine actor, loved by millions but ask him how would he feel if after completion of the shooting of the movie, the producers decide that they are going to use Sushil Kumar as the face of the film's promotion and use Leander Paes' face on the posters of the film. Would it still be a Salman Khan blockbuster?

I am not even in the favor of Sachin Tendulkar being appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for Olympics because he played a sport which was never a part of Olympics and will not be a part of it in near future. How would he have felt, if  instead of chanting Sachiiiiin Sachin, fans start chanting Milkha Milkha, when he was batting in the World Cup?

Sachin and Salman get enough publicity whenever a movie is released or a cricket match is on. Olympics is a platform of all other athletes to showcase their skills and make a name of themselves and for public to meet their champions of past and present and IOA has robbed them of this chance.

The Importance of 'I'

When a child is born, he knows no relations. He is only concerned about his meals and his sleep. As he starts to grow up he is introduced to the relationships and then for most of us these relations become more important that even ourselves. God created only man and woman. It is us who gave a name to human interactions because of our need for companion. But the point right now or the questions in front of us are; whether we should keep relations ahead of ourselves? And whether we do justice to that relation by doing that?  Now let me elaborate on these questions. There comes a time in everyone's life when a relationship becomes so important that in order to keep it alive we are willing to sacrifice everything and sometimes the effort is reciprocated and sometimes it doesn't. We need to ask ourselves if all this effort is worth the try?  The answer is No. Because till the time I is not satisfied in a relationship it will never let We to evolve. I believe that the ...

Decoding Hinduism

“A set of belief concerning the cause, nature and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as a creation of superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.”  dictionary.com “A personal set or institutionalised system of religious attitudes, beliefs and practices.”  merriam-webster.com These are the definitions of the word ‘Religion’ given in two of the most renowned dictionaries available on Internet. And these definitions are spot on in case of most of the religions existing in the world like Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism , etc. Every religion would find its definition in the above mentioned words. But not Hinduism; because these definitions are too narrow in scope to define Hinduism. It is too broad a term to be defined in two simple lines. I am in no way trying to undermine any other religion or trying to portray a larger than life im...

My Understanding of Hinduism

Who is a Hindu? The simplest answer would be a person who follows Hinduism is a Hindu. But this answer can be sufficient for a follower of Islam, Christianity or Sikhism because these religions are based on a set of rules and rituals and hence can be defined on the basis of following of them. However, when talking about a Hindu or Hinduism this answer does not suffice. This is because Hinduism is not bound by rules and rituals. Hinduism is more of a way of life than a religion. If you are able to unearth the deep rooted truths that lie in the teachings of Hinduisms, then there is no fear of any Hell and no desire for any Heaven left in us. There are reasons that I refer to Hinduism as a way of life. And I would like to share some of the reasons that I have been able to decode. First of all, a Hindu unlike a Muslim or a Christian is not asked to follow one particular God and lead the life in a particular way. There is a lot of freedom. The thoughts, ideology, the rituals are not r...
