I Want Reservation Because I Am In Majority

I am a male in my mid 30s living in India. I am a Hindu Brahmin which means that I belong to the section of this country which comprises 79% of its population. So statistically speaking I belong to the majority population of this country. However, with almost 52.50% reservation in education, jobs and promotions to the Scheduled Class, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes I am left to fight for what is left with more than half of the country's population. Hence, really speaking I belong to the minority in this nation. Therefore, today I want to ask for reservation for me and all the citizens of this country who are majority in numbers but minority in options. It seems that India is the only country in the free world, where the majority population is fighting a loosing battle for higher education and jobs for their children. I do not blame the citizens of this country who receive benefits under these various reservation schemes and neither I blame the citizens of this cou...

Great Indian Political Circus

The Left wing student union of Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU), decided to create a stir in the political atmosphere of Delhi and organized a program in which they commemorated Afzal Guru on his death anniversary and slammed the decision of Hon' Supreme Court of hanging him for his activities linked to terror attacks in India. The program was held in JNU and it is heard that a lot of pro Pakistan and Anti-India slogans were raised and Afzal Guru was made out to be a martyr. After this show, (which was a slap in the face of our democracy and an open misuse of fundamental rights,) when the news of what transpired in this show and after the complaints registered by BJP's student wing ABVP and BJP leaders with Delhi police, the leader of this Super Patriotic and Nationalistic student union Mr. Kanahia Kumar was arrested on charges of Sedetion. So this was just the news of what actually happened. Now we come to the comic relief from this very serious issue which would lighte...

Swachh Bharat? We need more!

When Mr. Narendra Modi took the podium of Red Fort for the first time, one of the major programmes he launched was Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a drive to clean India and free the nation of all the filth lying everywhere. It was indeed a great thought which was always in front of everyone but easily ignored. But even after close to one and a half years since the launch, the program is yet to achieve some recognizable results.  What can be the reason for this? To analyze the above question,  we have to first ask ourselves another very important question. Why was there a need to launch Swachh Bharat Abhiyan? The answer lies in the hearts of 99% of Indians,  who would curse the government and civic agencies for not ensuring the cleanliness of the country but will also either spit there or litter everywhere around them. We Indians seem to have lost the sense of belonging towards our country after achieving independence. Our forefathers sacrificed a lot to achieve independence ...

India Pakistan Peace - A Dream That May Not Become A Reality

It happened again. As soon as there was an effort by the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan to rekindle the peace talks, there was a deadly terror attack at an Airforce base in Pathankot. And this was not a one off incident. When Prime Minister A B Vajpayee visited Lahore by bus and extended a hand of friendship, we suffered Kargil war, when Parvez Musharraf was invited to India and India tried to initiate peace process at Agra, the reply came in the form of attack on our Parliament, then we suffered 26/11 which was as horrific if not more than the attacks in Paris and the latest slap on the face of the initiative for peace started by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surprise visit to Pakistan on invitation of Pakistan's PM Nawaz Sharif came in the form of this deadly attack on Air Force base. The above incidents prove that no matter how seriously or how passionately peace is pursued by the two countries, there are parties involved who are more interested in disrupting ...

ODD EVEN FORMULA - Delhi Air Needs More Effort

In May 2014 World Health Organisation declared Delhi as the most polluted city in the world and in the last few months, since the winter has started to set in Delhi the debate about the ever reducing quality of air in the capital is gaining a voice. The air in Delhi has been declared poisonous by the different experts. The other day a leading daily paper reported that the case of lung ailments have increased in Delhi. With all these statistics and facts in the face, it was high time that the government of Delhi lead by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), decided to introduce Road Rationing Scheme or Odd-Even Rule. As per this rule from January 1, 2015 to January 15, 2015 vehicles with Odd registration numbers can come on the road on odd dates and Even registration numbered vehicles would be allowed on Delhi roads on even dates. As per the government this would reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and hence reduce air pollution.  I would however, like to have a look at the bigger p...

Love Thy Neighbour

Whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be able to bring good days for the people of India, will only be known after his stint of 5 years as Prime Minster is finish and the public gets to analyse the effects of his rule. however, a very important aspect requires to be touched upon when we talk about the initial days of his being in power. And this aspect is of India's foreign policy. During the last decade of UPA's rule, the government's focus remained on re-establishing India's relations with USA. I am not able to remember any other country which India engaged as actively as it did USA. And most importantly the UPA government completely ignored our neighbours. The result: India lost its status of first among the equals in the Indian sub-continent. Our relations with Sri Lanka soured owing to the issues of Tamils. We lost the importance in Nepal and Bhutan because of our big brother, arm twisting attitude. And these two countries started getting closer to China. Our...

Boycotting Republic Day?

There have been calls from all over India to boycott this Republic Day as a protest against the continuing crimes against women in this country. I totally agree with the public anger and I am also a part of group of people who believe that the government is not doing enough to make our country safe for women. My heart also burns with anger when everyday I read the news papers and find that again sme woman is subjected to a crime against her freedom, or her modesty. However, I do not agree to this call for boycotting the Republic Day. This is because today if we are able to protest against the non-functioning of Government or holding demonstrations, or even writing on the social websites to boycott Republic Day, its because India chose to be a republic when it accepted the constitution in 1950. Our leaders at the time of independence showed a great foresight when they decided that India would become a Republic and all the members of political class and government functionaries will ...
